The Basics of Pokemon

The Basics of Pokemon

Pokemon, pronounced "pocket monster," is an iconic video game franchise that has become a global phenomenon. It has spawned animated series, trading cards, movies and a slew of other toys, apparel and merchandise.

The game is a role-playing video game, where players build a team of monsters called Pokemon to battle other trainers in a fantasy world resembling rock-paper-scissors, gaining strength through experience and defeating Gym Leaders and earning acclaim for their battling prowess. There are different types of Pokemon, each with a different type of attack.

Using the correct amount and type of energy to perform an attack is essential in Pokemon. Some attacks require colorless energy, while others demand specific energy types.

In addition to the basic moves, each Pokemon has a special ability that allows them to perform certain actions. These abilities are listed on the Pokemon's card.

Deal with a Confused Pokemon

A Confused Pokemon is turned upside down and cannot retreat or attack. It can also be cured between turns if it was Confused since the beginning of your last turn.

Decrease Damage against a Pokemon that is Paralyzed by three damage counters. This decreases the damage it takes from all attacks between your two turns, but it does not prevent it from being knocked out.

Evolve your Pokemon

You can evolve a Pokemon by placing its Evolution card on top of it, if the Evolution is an active or benched one. If it is a Basic, it will become a Stage 1, and a Stage 1 will evolve into a Stage 2.

Use a Trainer Card

In every turn, you can activate any number of Item, Supporter, Tool, or Stadium cards to help your Pokemon do things. Each has a description of what it does and how it helps your Pokemon. The cards are discarded after they are used.

Move a Pokemon to a new location

If you have a Pokemon on your bench or an active Pokemon that you aren't attacking, you can move it to a new location by moving it to a location on your opponent's side of the field. If you do not have a Pokemon on your bench, you can only move it to a new location if you use a Trainer card.

Send a Pokemon to a Poke Stop

When you play a Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch, you can find and catch Pokemon at Poke Stops in the real world. These stops are normally found near train stations and other major locations.

Communicate with other trainers

In a Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch or compatible smartphone, it is important to communicate with other Trainers. You can use signals, quick-chat messages and voice chat to keep your progress in sync. You can even take a picture of your opponent's Pokemon to let them know what happened during your fight.

Share and trade Pokemon

The most popular way to share your Pokémon is through trading with other users in a Pokemon trading group. This is a great way to get friends together, have fun and learn about fairness and sportsmanship.
