How to Make a QWET Tincture
QWET (Quick Wash Ethanol Extraction) is a method of separating and extracting the plant compounds from cannabis to create a concentrate that contains the desired cannabinoids and terpenes without unwanted water soluble materials like fats, lipids and chlorophyll.qwet It is a simple and effective extraction technique that is quick and inexpensive to use at home.
The basic idea behind the QWET method is to freeze the cannabis flower and pour high-proof alcohol over it.qwet This makes it easier for the cannabinoids to attach to the ethanol. The ethanol is then strained to extract the trichomes and other components from the frozen flower.
There are some advantages to the QWET method over long soak methods that are common in tinctures, but there are also some drawbacks.qwet One of the main drawbacks is that it can take a long time to produce a high quality tincture.
Another disadvantage of this method is that it can pull a large amount of chlorophyll from the plant material.qwet The chlorophyll will then add an undesirable taste and smell to the final product.
Regardless of your personal preference, QWET is an excellent way to make a tincture with less chlorophyll and a much lighter color than a traditional long soak tincture.qwet The tincture will be slightly less potent than the longer soaking methods but it should still be able to achieve the effects you want from your cannabis in a shorter amount of time.
The other advantage of this method is that it is easy to prepare.qwet Simply place your decarboxylated cannabis and a small amount of high-proof alcohol in a freezer for at least 6 hours.
After the weed and alcohol are frozen, put them in a mason jar with a lid and screw it on tightly. The jar needs to be big enough that you can fit the entire pound of weed and a full bottle of alcohol in it*, but not so large that the weed will overflow or leak out of the jar.
Once you are ready to make your tincture, remove the jar from the freezer and strain it using your preferred straining system, such as a coffee filter in a funnel. Strain the tincture into a clean mason jar, amber-colored tincture jar, or another glass container that can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
The tincture should be stored in the refrigerator or in the freezer for months, if not more. If you choose to store it in the freezer, it can be stored for up to a year at a time.
The tincture can be used as a sublingual supplement, in recipes, or to make other concentrates and extracts. It can be consumed as is or diluted with a little distilled water to reduce the harshness.
