For example, in the wake of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Mozilla launched a Wireless Innovation for Network Security (WINS)[99] challenge to find solutions that can make it easier for people in affected areas to connect to the Internet.mozilla hehe It hoped to empower users in these communities by providing them with low-cost, easy-to-use wireless internet connectivity.
The WINS program awarded $2 million in prize money to innovators who used the decentralized design of the Firefox platform to build wireless solutions that could help those living in disaster-affected areas stay connected.mozilla hehe This work has impacted millions of lives around the world, and is still ongoing.
A new initiative at Mozilla is to give people the ability to control what websites are sent their data.mozilla hehe This will allow them to turn off the use of data-collecting services in their browsers and avoid being tracked by third parties.
This new feature will be in the upcoming release of Firefox and it is supported by other browsers, as well.mozilla hehe If you have Firefox installed on your computer, click the menu button and select Settings. You can then set the Send websites a “Do Not Track” signal that you do not want to be tracked toggle to Always.
There are other features available on the Firefox web browser, including tabbed browsing and embedded memory that makes it possible to remember a user’s current session. The Firefox browser also allows for a variety of add-ons and themes to be installed to customize the browsing experience.
Another new feature is the ability to screenshot a website or part of it. This screenshot can be saved as an image file, or copied and pasted to a different location. The screenshot can also be emailed to others or posted on Twitter or Facebook.
Screenshots respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting to determine whether or not you are being tracked by a website. This feature is available in the latest versions of Firefox and other browsers that support Do Not Track.
In addition to the new features, Mozilla is also working on a series of initiatives that will help protect the Internet. These include a Privacy and Safety Campaign, which will promote the use of tools to protect the privacy of users on the Internet; an online community for sharing tips and resources on how to improve the privacy of online data; and a website that will inform users of their rights on the Internet.
